How to apply

The EWS Educational Trust to open to applications from current and former employees of English Welsh & Scottish Railway Ltd and DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd, and its subsidiary companies, for them and their families.

It is also open to current employees of:

  • Other active rail freight operating companies in the UK
  • Customers of DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd services who are directly connected to the provision of freight trains, for example through terminal operations or discharge of trains.

Families are defined as spouses, partners, civil partners, children, step-children, grandchildren and step grandchildren. 

Applications can be submitted at any time and should be made by completing the on-line form by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button on this page or by completing the printed application form contained in the EWS Educational Trust brochure. Please ensure that all information requested is provided as without this the Trustees and the Board of Management will be unable to properly consider the application.

Applications should ensure they follow the aim of the EWS Educational Trust, which seeks as its primary goal the promotion and expansion of academic and artistic based excellence and, where in special circumstance the lives of applicants may be enhanced in order that they may reach their fullest potential, through the provision of financial assistance to deserving applicants.

The Trustees recognise that every applicant and their circumstances are different and will therefore make awards accordingly.  There will be no standard applicant or grant and the only limit on any application is the ambition to achieve potential.

The Board of Management will consider applications during February, May, August and November each year.

All applicants will be written to informing them of the outcome of their application.
